Perinatal State of Mind
During pregnancy and after birth, women may experience a range of mental health difficulties, such as anxiety disorders, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder or postnatal psychotic disorders. Perinatal illnesses occur during pregnancy and the first year following the birth. You are not alone, there is a range of support to help you, your baby and family get off to the best start.

We have a specialist mental health midwifery team that can offer additional support to you in your pregnancy, your midwife may discuss the team with you contact them to offer you this support.
There is also lots of support locally to help women access support for low mood, anxiety and other mental health disorders

Think Wellbeing (IAPT Services)
There are a variety of therapy options for perinatal women in Wigan,
• Wellbeing course, on teams 6 weekly sessions. Teaches coping skills
• Silvercloud – CBT online package with supported guidance.
Face to face 1-1 therapies available:

EMDR
IPT (Interpersonal Therapy)
MBCT (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy)
Group PTSD Support Group

Well Women Leigh
Well Women are commissioned to deliver a ‘Women’s Emotional Health and Wellbeing’ Service and provide three distinct strands of delivery including Post Natal Depression and Ante Natal Depression/Anxiety Disorder Counselling, Health Education Outreach Project in Schools and Generic Counselling Work with Women and Families.

Wigan Family Welfare
WFW are commissioned to deliver the ‘Emotional Health and Wellbeing of mothers with children 0-5’ service which offers Post Natal Depression Counselling.

BAB’s
The Wigan bonding attachment and bonds service service aims to support the developing relationship between the parent / carer and their baby / toddler when there are concerns about the relationship. Their approach with families is flexible and needs led and can be in the form of:
Home visits
Drop-in sessions
Group sessions or direct work
One-to-one assessment, support and direct therapeutic work with parents, carers and their infant or child.
