Basic Science and Upper Limb FRCS courses

  1. The course is aimed at candidates who have passed part 1 of the exam and are as such ready to appear for the clinical section of the exam.
  2. Due to the high demand on this course a limited number of observer places may be offered depending upon the discretion of the Convener. This will attract a charge of £200 basic science viva course & £250 FRCS (Orth) upper limb course.

  • Cancellation up to 2 months before course date 90% will be refunded.
  • Cancellation up to 3 weeks before course date 50% will be refunded.

Wrightington FRCS (T&O) Lower Limb Viva Courses

Wrightington Conference Centre, Wrightington Hospital, Wigan, WN6 9EP

Course Dates: 31st March 2025, 22nd September 2025, 19th January 2026

Convenors: Mr Sunil Panchani, Mr Chris Whelton, Mr Henry Wynn Jones

This is an intensive one-day course on lower limb surgery in preparation for the FRCS (Orth) exam. ​​​The course is aimed at candidates about to sit the Intercollegiate Board examination in Orthopaedic Surgery.

The course has been based on the highly successful and long running Wrightington Upper Limb course. The emphasis of the course is on viva practice under examination conditions.

Faculty will include Consultant Lower Limb Surgeons and Lower Limb Fellows who have recently taken the examination. There is a high ratio of examiners to delegates to ensure that delegates get plenty of practice. Viva subjects cover questions encountered in the "Adult Pathology" section of the FRCS Vivas (Spines, Pelvis and Hip, Knee, F&A, Tumours, Infection)

Wrightington Acetabular Revision Masterclass

Bioskills Lab, Wrightington Conference Centre, Wrightington Hospital, Wigan, WN6 9EP

Course Date: Friday 21st March 2025

This is an exciting acetabular revision reconstruction one day course with 3D printed operable models with real defects and fresh frozen femoral head bone.

The course is aimed at Senior Trainee Orthopaedic surgeons, ST8, post CCT Fellows. To register you should have passed your FRCS and have an interest in hip surgery.  There are 12 places available.

British Hip Society Principles of Hip Arthroplasty Course

Northwest Periprosthetic Fracture Course

This is a two-day instructional course with lectures, case-based discussion and workshops covering all aspects of peri-prosthetic femoral fracture management. The course is aimed at Orthopaedic Consultants, Senior Trainee Orthopaedic Surgeons, and Allied Healthcare Professionals with an interest in the management of peri-prosthetic fractures. CPD Points to be applied for (last course attracted 9.5 CPD points).
