Information Governance

Information Governance is basically how we govern the use of information we use at the Trust.  So, we need to make sure that personal and sensitive data is kept safe and secure.  We always "Think Privacy" when using personal and sensitive data about our patients and our staff.

There are numerous standards we have to comply with in order to help us comply with the data laws, such as the Data Protection Act 2018.  By doing this, it helps us to ensure that we process data legally, securely and confidentially in order to deliver safe and effective care.

As a public authority we also have to be open and transparent about what we do.  The Freedom of Information Act 2000 allows anyone to ask for information about the Trust's business and we provide information to support this.  You can find out more about the Freedom of Information Act 2000 by clicking on the Freedom of Information link on the left hand side of this page.

Information Governance (IG) permeates every aspect of the NHS due to the vast amount of data it holds about businesses, patients and staff. Despite this IG is often regarded as complex and overwhelming, complicating the core principle of encouraging the sharing of data when in the best interest of patients’ care. Therefore this Jargon Buster has been created to provide a greater understanding of acronyms and terms commonly used within IG.
