Intensive Care Unit / High Dependency Unit
At the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, we operate an 11-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU), providing patients and relatives with the highest level of care. This unit cares for patients who require continuous care and complex treatment.
The ICU team is comprised of many different health care professionals including nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, healthcare assistants, psychologists and dieticians. At the heart of our care is treating our patients with compassion, dignity and respect.
The direct telephone numbers to the unit are: 01942 822 591 or 01942 822 380.
Relatives can ring the unit at any time, however it would help if only one person telephones the hospital and relays any news onto others.
Please note, we are unable to give detailed information over the phone and you will be asked for the Password assigned to the patient.
Daily visiting times are from 12pm - 7.30pm.
We welcome visitors on ICU, however we ask that no more than two people visit a patient at one time.
Having a relative on ICU can be really challenging. If you would like some information on how to support yourself during this difficult time, please read our leaflet.
You can also request support from your GP, the Chaplaincy service or speak to a nurse about being referred to the ICU Clinical Psychologist.
