Research Team

You may be asked if you wish to take part in research whilst you are pregnant or after you have given birth, although you do not have to take part. Research is an important way to improve the care and treatment of people. The pandemic has highlighted the vital role research plays in supporting the health and wellbeing of the population, with the developments of treatments and vaccinations.

Some of the research trials that we have undertaken at WWL in maternity include:

POOL Study
This study looks at the effects and benefits of the use of water for analgesia and delivery.

Big Baby Trial
This is a randomised controlled trial which aims to identify if having an induction of labour at 38+0 – 38+4, if your baby is predicated to be large, reduces the incidence of a shoulder dystocia.

All clinicians are practice based professions and their practice must be informed by research. Research is vital in providing the evidence we need to transform services and improve health outcomes. Research is also an important way to improve the care and treatment of people. The pandemic has highlighted the vital role research plays in supporting the health and wellbeing of the population, with the developments of treatments and vaccinations.
