WWL announces New Deputy Chief Executive

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) is pleased to announce that Richard Mundon has been appointed as its new Deputy Chief Executive, alongside his existing Director of Strategy and Planning role.

Richard has been a valued member of WWL’s Board of Directors for the past decade, leading on the Strategy and Planning portfolio, which includes Continuous Improvement, Research, Digital, Data and Occupational Health.

In his new role as Deputy CEO, Richard will now also be responsible for creating, strengthening, and accelerating partnership working within WWL, the Wigan Borough locality, the Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board, and beyond.

Richard will become WWL’s Board level champion of Compassionate Care and will place an even stronger emphasis on bringing the lived experience voice of patients and carers to the forefront, driving positive changes for our patients and their loved ones.

On the appointment, Richard said: "I'm really pleased to be stepping into this role of Deputy Chief Executive. I always strive to make sure that the patient remains at the heart of our decision-making while we continue to focus our efforts on operational and financial sustainability alongside transforming services. I look forward to working alongside WWL's dedicated teams for the benefit of patients and local people. I hope to continue to play a part in shaping how we deliver great care and improve health outcomes and continuing to build the future success of the organisation together."

Richard is a very experienced public servant and has spent most of his career in the health sector. He has a degree in biological sciences, is a qualified accountant and has worked for the Department of Health (DH) in a wide variety of roles including policy, management and corporate disciplines. Richard joined WWL in 2012, becoming Acting Director of Strategy and Planning in 2014, before being appointed in the substantive post a year later. His role as Deputy CEO will begin with immediate effect.
