Anil Gambhir is a Consultant Hip and Knee Surgeon, at the Centre for Hip Surgery, at Wrightington Hospital. He is also Senior Lecturer at Edge Hill University. He is the Divisional Medical Director for Specialist Services at WWL.
He is fellowship trained in dealing with complex hip and knee pathology, undertakes both primary and revision hip and knee surgery. He was appointed as a Consultant at WWL in 2003 and became a full time elective Consultant at Wrightington in 2009.
He has been Clinical Director for Trauma (2007-2009), Clinical Director for Orthopaedics (Lower Limb) (2012-14) and is currently the Divisional Medical Director for Specialist Services. He is currently overseeing the launch of the new state-of-the-art Orthopaedic facility at Wrightington.
He qualified from the Victoria University of Manchester in 1991. He obtained his FRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons in 1995. He completed his speciality training in the North West of England including two fellowships at Wrightington (one academic and one clinical). He gained his intercollegiate speciality fellowship in 2001.
Anil has undertaken additional specialist training abroad, visiting centres in North America and Europe.
Anil has a strong academic background and has been awarded an academic fellowship by the University of Manchester and travelling fellowships by the British Orthopaedic Association to Europe and North America. He was awarded the British Hip Society Travelling fellowship to North America in 2005.
Anil remains an active researcher and continues to teach on a variety of courses in Europe and Asia.
