Tim Barlow is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee surgery.  He joined Wrightington in 2023, having worked previously as a Consultant in Warwick Hospital and was top of his graduating year from St Andrews Medical School (basic science), graduating with Honours from Manchester Medical School (clinical).

Tim’s training included work at internationally recognised centres of excellence and during these periods he gained national recognition for novel knee treatment pathways and prizes for his clinical work.  He has worked with national organisations such as Versus Arthritis and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), helping set research priorities and implementing care pathways.

Tim has an interest in research, and his PhD was on factors affecting outcomes in knee surgery.  He has held grants from institutions such as the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), has won numerous prizes and awards and is regularly asked to teach and talk at national and international meetings.

Tim treats sports injuries to the knee, including ligament, cartilage and meniscal problems, revision procedures, and tertiary referrals.  Tim also arthritis of the knee, including non-operative treatment, joint preserving techniques, and replacing part or all of the joint.  Tim also contributes to the general trauma and specialist knee trauma service.
