Ian is a St. Andrews graduate, who spent an extra year in physiology and pharmacology for the Honours degree prior to completing the clinical years of his medical degree in Manchester. Ian returned to Scotland for his surgical house job in Kirkcaldy in 1987. He has been based around Manchester ever since, training in a broad range of hospitals including Bury, Monsall (now part of North Manchester General), Blackburn, the Christie, and for the most part in Hope Hospital. He undertook research with the Medical Research Council’s Trauma Group at Hope Hospital, forging links with the University which remain today.
The current emphasis is more on teaching than research, being the tutor for the Fifth year medical students here at Wigan. Ian has been a consultant at WWL for many years now.
