After completion of her basic surgical training in the Wessex region, Naomi moved to the North West where she did her higher surgical training. She has worked at many district general hospitals in this region as well as spending time in the Intestinal Failure Unit at Hope Hospital.
Naomi was appointed as a Consultant in this Trust in 2001. The majority of her work is with patients with Colorectal Cancer. She also has a special interest in disorders of the pelvic floor, such as faecal incontinence and obstructed defaecation. She has set up a pelvic floor service in the department of surgery in which Naomi carries out her own ano-rectal manometry and endoanal ultrasound.
Naomi attends a joint clinic with Dr Davies, Consultant Gynaecologist, the pelvic floor physiotherapist, and our continence advisor, in order to see those patients with complex conditions. In addition, she runs a second clinic with the continence advisor, for patients with functional bowel disorders alone. The patients for these clinics are referred from her routine clinics or from colleagues. She undertakes surgery for patients with inflammatory bowel disease, including basic perianal fistula and restorative ileoanal pouch surgery.
In addition to her clinical work she chairs the Surgical Improvement Group and co-chairs a committee looking at Surgical Site Infections.
