Qualifications: MBChB (Honours) Liverpool FRCOphth
Salim qualified from the University of Liverpool Medical School in 1992 with honours. He completed his basic and higher surgical training in Preston and the Merseyside hospitals. He undertook a fellowship in Uveitis in Chicago and a further fellowship with Professor Harding at Liverpool in medical retinal diseases. He was appointed a Consultant at Wrightington Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust in October 2001.
Salim provides comprehensive care for patients with the serious blinding disease, age related macular degeneration. He uses the latest treatments which include Lucentis (intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy) He runs a fast track referral clinic which has reduced waiting times significantly.
He is also the new Clinical lead for the diabetic retinopathy screening programme and provides laser and other treatment modalities for patients with sight threatening diabetic eye disease.
He also supervises the GP trainees who are attached for 6 months to the eye unit.
Salim has several publications/abstracts in the medical literature and has presented many papers at scientific meetings. He is a peer reviewer for the English National Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Programme.
