- About Us
Acute medicine is the immediate specialist management of adults with a wide range of medical conditions who come into hospital as emergencies. Observations, investigations and tests may be ordered and patients will be examined by one of the Acute Medicine doctors. The doctor will decide whether or not a patient needs to be admitted - some patients will be discharged home from the assessment area. Acute medicine consultants also specialise in cardiology, respiratory medicine, endocrinology, gastroenterology, elderly medicine, rheumatology and dermatology.
- Will I have to stay in hospital?
Will I have to stay in hospital? If you are transferred to another ward it is because you are expected to remain in hospital for specialist care. We recognise the demands of admitting and managing acutely ill patients and aim to provide the lowest possible waiting times in Accident & Emergency without compromising on quality of service or treatment.
