Speech and Language Therapy – Adult Community
OVERVIEW:
The Adult Community Speech & Language Therapy (SLT) team provides a service to patients living in their own homes, residential/nursing homes and within a clinic setting.
- About Us
A Speech & Language Therapist is uniquely able to offer assessment, advice and intervention in all areas of communication impairment, for example: for patients who have a new difficulty such as speaking clearly, finding the right words, understanding what is said, speaking fluently.
A Speech & Language Therapist is able to offer advice and intervention for dysphagia in the oral and pharngeal stages only, e.g. patients who have a neurological condition, e.g. CVA/TIA, Parkinson’s disease, Dementia, head injury, patients who have a recent history of recurrent chest infection, patients who cough whilst eating/drinking, patients who have a persistent wet or gurgly voice particularly after eating/drinking, patient/family/carers who report that the patient has a difficulty with eating, drinking and/or swallowing. - Accessing the Service
Patients registered with a GP in Ashton, Leigh & Wigan area can access our Speech & Language Therapy service.
Adults known to the Neuro Community Rehab Team will have their needs assessed via this service.
Adults with voice disorders and inpatients will have their needs assessed by the WWL SLT service.The service is open Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 4.30pm
