What to Bring With You
Storage space on the wards is limited. However,on some wards, you will be encouraged to change out of your night clothes whenever possible. You may like to bring something comfortable to wear, such as a tracksuit.
Please bring your personal toiletries including wet wipes, shaving kit or electric razor, towels, nightclothes, dressing gown and slippers. You may also like to bring some cordial and fruit. There may be times, for example between tests or treatments, when there is little for you to do. You may like to bring books, magazines, a personal stereo, letter writing materials, knitting or games to pass the time.
- Money
A small bedside locker is provided for your personal belongings. Please do not bring valuables or large amounts of money with you.
The Trust will not accept responsibility for loss or damage to personal property of any kind, including money, in whatever way the loss or damage may occur, unless these items are deposited for safe keeping and a receipt obtained.
If you do need to bring valuables or money with you, please tell a member of the ward staff. They will arrange for your valuables to be collected and taken for safe keeping in the cashiers department. You will be issued with a receipt. Generally withdrawal of items can be made between 09:00 and 17:00, Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holidays. However there may be exceptions in some circumstances.
You may wish to bring change for the telephone and items from the trolley.
Don’t forget to bring your pension or benefit book if you expect to be in hospital for longer than six weeks.
- Medication
Any tablets or medicines you are taking should be handed to the nurse in charge on arrival. This includes both medications prescribe by your GP or any others you have purchased over the counter e.g. herbal preparations.
