Talent for Care and Wider Participation

Our mission is to enhance our local community, drive positive change, and diminish inequalities within the Wigan Borough.

Participating in a Sector Work Based Programme offers a fulfilling experience that significantly enhances career prospects. These programmes are crucial for developing the future workforce at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL). A WWL SWAP is an inclusive, welcoming all individuals regardless of their background, race, disability, unemployment status, or experience.

In collaboration with Wigan and Leigh College and the Job Centre, we are dedicated to providing placements that correspond with candidates' aspirations for employment within the NHS. To support this initiative, we will offer a Customer Services Level 1 course, facilitated by Wigan and Leigh College. We host guest speakers from the NHS who will share valuable insights on essential topics such as Fraud, Safeguarding, Fire Safety, and more, helping candidates achieve their future employment goals.

As a Trust, we will commit to the following:

  • Collaborate with local providers and Job Centre Plus to provide "active" and "meaningful" placements that align with substantive vacancies at WWL, allowing participants to gain experience in the NHS while acquiring valuable knowledge.
  • Inspire and educate our community about the various roles and pathways into the Trust, supporting the “grow your own initiative.”
  • Create opportunities for WWL to “shape” our workforce with the right individuals in the right positions.

The SWAP programme will allow local community members to experience the NHS environment and explore the roles available before committing to permanent employment whilst also addressing our recruitment and retention challenges regarding the future workforce. It allows WWL to raise awareness of the Trust by showcasing who we are, what we do, and highlighting our Trust Values and Behaviours whilst connecting participants with current opportunities available at WWL.

Ultimately, our aim is to enhance participation in the Wigan Borough by working together as one interconnected team. By aligning with our Trust values and behaviours, we lay our foundation to:

  • Place people at the heart of our work
  • Listen and involve others
  • Demonstrate kindness and respect
  • Function as one team.

Talent for Care empowers individuals to Get Ready, Get In, Get On, and Go Further in their journey towards a career and advancement within the NHS.

Talent for Care at WWL aims to promote wider access and participation by creating and refining accessible employment, education, and training opportunities, including apprenticeships. WWL aims to improve health and wellbeing outcomes in the Wigan Borough and to encourage a workforce that truly reflects the diverse communities it serves.
